International Students
If you are an international student coming to Southampton, you join a vibrant and diverse community. Southampton is a city of 217,000 people, with over forty languages, and fourteen different faiths. At the university itself ,you will be one of 1,800 international students from over 100 different nationalities.
At Chaplaincy, you will find a warm welcome wherever you come from. The Chaplaincy is a great place for students from anywhere and everywhere (that is, international and home students) to mix together. We can help you settle in, find a place of worship and we run some events just for you.
CathSoc Mass
The CathSoc (Catholic Society) is a very international group with over 30 different nationalities and everyone is invited to take an active role. The Mass is at 6.30pm on a Sunday evenings and reflects the international nature of CathSoc, both through the worship (learn how to sing the gloria in Polish!) and in the food afterwards (if you have a speciality dish, by all means bring it along!)
CathSoc is an opportunity to make friends with people from as far a field as Malaysia and Mexico as well as from all over the European Union. Our Catholic Chaplain is Sr Catherine Cruz, part of an international missionary community and has herself been an international student, studying in Spain as well as working in many different countries. Something of an international person herself, she has roots in both Portugal and the UK.
International Café
Is an event run by the Christian Union, providing an opportunity to meet up, make friends, learn about each others cultures and simply have a good time!
Each week on Mondays at 8pm we have a different theme (& cake), i.e. games night, Welsh night, skittles etc.
Anglicans, Baptists, Methodists, URCs etc...
If your particular denominational label is Anglican or Free Church, then we should have a specific chaplain for you. Find out more here.
If you are of another faith, please see our interfaith page for more info.
